Welcome to Mercy Ships

Our 2010 Breaking Shackles Campaign

The story of Abel, pictured above, who suffered from severely malformed legs, is a powerful illustration of what our Breaking Shackles campaign is all about. This young man’s life would have been painful and difficult had it not been for surgery onboard our Mercy Ship. The surgery liberated him from his physical restrictions and the mental hardship associated with his condition.

Breaking Shackles is designed to fund surgery for those like Abel who suffer from the pain and humiliation of disfiguring conditions such as club feet, facial tumours, cleft lips and cataracts. Because of cultural superstitions, many of those suffering these conditions are shunned and isolated by their communities. By providing corrective surgery, Mercy Ships breaks the shackles and releases these patients to return to a normal, productive life.

Thank you for partnering with us. Because of your support, thousands of the world’s forgotten poor are being released from the pain and shame of their debilitating health conditions.

More than 7000 FREE surgeries are performed each year on the Africa Mercy. This is made possible by the goodwill of the VOLUNTEER medical and support staff who pay their way to the ship and the generous contributions of supporters in the developed world.

Join us as we bring HOPE and HEALING to the world's forgotten poor. Enjoy your visit!
