Anaesthesia Provider

This is an unpaid volunteer role on board the Africa Mercy or Global Mercy, hospital ships serving those in need in sub-Saharan Africa by providing free, life-saving surgeries and strengthening health care systems.

Description

Provide independent anaesthetic care (without the supervision of another medical doctor) to patients undergoing surgical and diagnostic procedures as well as occasionally manage patients in the Intensive Care Unit. 

The Anaesthesia Provider volunteer position, part of the Hospital, will be located on the Africa Mercy or Global Mercy, the world’s largest non-governmental hospital ships. The preferred minimum time commitment for this role is two weeks.

Qualifications Required:

  • Consultant or Board Certified Anaesthesiologist, Registrar level anaesthesia provider, or Certified Registered Nurse Anaesthetist (CRNA) 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience (including anaesthesia training) is desirable • Must be actively practising Anaesthesia within the past 2 years. 
  • Proficiency in spinal anaesthesia, ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia, paediatric anaesthesia, difficult airway management (including awake fibre-optic intubations), and management of patients in intensive care is desirable 
  • Fluent in English
