Helping people is what Lorri Garfield does.

It was because of her work as a pathologist and her husband Pete’s love of boats, in particular paddlesteamers, she knew working with Mercy Ships Africa was perfect for them.

The Echuca couple begin their adventure working off the coast of Cameroon on August 16 and will spend almost three months working on the floating hospital.

‘‘I first had the idea about eight years ago, but then I met Pete and we got married,’’ Mrs Garfield said.

‘‘It kind of went on the backburner a bit.”
