You’re ready to take the next step and apply for a volunteer position at Mercy Ships. The process is comprehensive, but we’re here to help. Here’s what you need to do:
Step 1: Check Positions Available
Click here to check availability of positions on board the Africa Mercy.
Step 2: Complete Your Application
Complete the online application for the position of your choice. We recommend filling out your application 3-6 months in advance of when you would like to join Mercy Ships.
Step 3: Notify Your References
Notify your three references (employer, friend, pastor/mentor) and send them the required form for them to complete and return. These references form part of your application.
Step 4: Visit Your Doctor
Make an appointment to see your doctor for the required physical examination. This physical examination forms part of your application.
Step 5: Meet Your Placement Facilitator
As soon as we receive your application, you will be assigned a Placement Facilitator who will be in contact with you via email to guide you through the application review process. Some positions require skills assessments. Those forms will be sent to you after your application is received. Some positions also require criminal background checks.
Step 6: Receive Your Acceptance
Once you are accepted to volunteer, complete the required documentation and make an appointment with your doctor or local travel clinic to undergo the required immunisations and tests. Ensure that you have a current passport. After you have been accepted and financially cleared to purchase your flights, Mercy Ships will provide visa credentials for the country where you’ll serve.
Thank you for your interest in serving with Mercy Ships. It is only through the compassion of our volunteers that we can continue providing hope and healing to those who need it the most.
