Yaya came to the ship as a young boy with his legs twisting in every direction but straight down. His condition was severe, but could be helped. Since The Surgery Ship, Yaya’s dream is to continue to high school and to become a journalist. If anyone needs a West African journalism intern, Yaya is keen to work!
Maimouna
Maxillofacial Patient
Maimouna arrived on board the ship with a tumour that engulfed her eye and face. Ostracised for her grotesque appearance, she lived a life almost completely within the confines of the family home. After surgery on board to remove her tumour, Maimouna is finished with school and hopes to work as a seamstress.
